As with most things, this event started out small in the 1970s and now has grown into a first rate operation and something that everyone should experience. One of the exceptional things about this event is that artists are not just local, but they come from as far as California, Michigan, New Hampshire, New York and Pennsylvania. And talk about variety. You will have a chance to peruse some out of this world artwork including paintings, woodworking, photography, jewelry, fabric, glass, metal, metal, pottery and stone. Sponsored by the Waccamaw Arts and Crafts Guild, the location is phenomenal as the show is in a gorgeous park just two blocks from the ocean in the middle of amazing Myrtle Beach. The event is free and there are actually six Art in the Park shows held each year.
Art and No More
There is one thing that needs to be said about all of the artwork that you will be able to peruse. All of the art that you will have a chance to check out is absolutely original and created by the displaying artist without the benefit of purchased, reusable molds, kits or commercial mass production. This is actually refreshing as the Guild is very serious about keeping the show old fashioned in a sense in terms of only allowing two and three dimensional art to be displayed and sold. In order to stay true to that goal, they have actually turned away numerous musicians, authors, food products and bath and body artisans. And by doing so, you will find it refreshing in that you will be able to concentrate on the real reason you are there, to look at some exceptional artwork.
However, if you find yourself worried that you won't have anything to eat and drink while perusing the fabulous art, we have one word for you. No worries. Well, that is two but you understand what we mean. Within just a short walking distance from where the vendors are setup, you are going to find anything and everything available for any need you might have. Make sure you bring the kids along because you are going to find everything from the most celebrated names in retail to ice cream to pizza. If you are in a position where you can do it, you will also have the opportunity to sample some great fare from one-of-a-kind restaurants. Or how about a comfortable move theater. It is all within walking distance of Art in the Park. What a perfect mix of everything you have always wanted.
